Kavuma, Mujib Clash Over Stadium

A few days ago, silent loaded young city businessman Honest Reagan Kavuma aka ‘Champagne Papi’, unveiled an artificial turf stadium under construction in Munyonyo, a Kampala suburb, which is to be named Bayern Arena Uganda.

The facility which sits on three acres of land will cost Shs4Bn and will have a tennis court, basketball court, gym and a restaurant.  However, latest info reaching us has it that a big clash has erupted between the facility promoter Kavuma and Proline boss Mujib Kasule, over ownership of the stadium.

Sources say that Kavuma is mad after  word reached him that the stadium is perceived as Mujib’s stadium for his Proline team that has been training in Lugogo.  Sources say that when word got into Kavuma’s ears that the stadium is said to belong to Mujib, he went berserk and warned everyone to go slow on the matter.

It is revealed that Kavuma sought guidance from Mujib because of his long experience in the sports fraternity to advise him on the technical know-how in the sports industry.  It was upon that background that the two decided to stage an unveiling ceremony for the facility.

Kavuma left Mujib to help him handle the media and other sports related regulations in regard to running a sports facility. However, the two have since developed misunderstandings, whereby Kavuma has been going around vowing to stop Mujib from associating with his stadium.

Meanwhile, reports reveal that Mujib some years back had promised to open a sports academy in Entebbe after receiving a donation from former Manchester striker Rio Ferdinand, which never happened.

It should be noted that around 2011 President Yoweri Museveni offered Proline Soccer Academy land to expand their facilities. The president ordered Ministry of Lands, Housing and Urban Development to allocate 30 acres of land to Proline Soccer Academy in Entebbe, but since then nothing has ever materialized.

Kavuma is a silent showoff who enjoys flashing money on social media. He is a businessman dealing in stock markets and investments. Watch this space.

Fufa President Eng. Moses Magogo has clashed out at the CECAFA leadership and demanded the the resignation of its president Dr. Mutassim Sirelkhatim Gafaar.
The Fufa chief expressed his displeasure at the running of CECAFA in a letter, dated Monday 30th November, to the Secretary General Nicholas Musonye.
Magogo noted that the current head of the regional body is too busy for the association, a situation that he thinks is hindering the progress of football in the region.
“This is to officially express FUFA’s position on the current governance challenge at CECAFA,” Fufa President’s letter partly reads.
“Our opinion as a member of CECAFA is that the President of CECAFA should resign his position having failed to conduct any business over 2 years. This is in the best interest of the game.”
Mutasim was elected on November 21 2015 after beating former Fufa president Lawrence Mulindwa by three votes.
His regime has struggled to organise the flagship tournaments; Cecafa senior and club championship. The two have not been held in the last two years and with just two months to end of year there seems to be no plan to have the tournaments organised.

A Belgian tourist has died in Queen Elizabeth National Park sparking an investigation by the police.

Jean-Michel Albert Hausman, 56, died on Thursday afternoon around Kasenyi landing site according to Kasese CID chief Peter Tindyebwa.

According to reports Hausman died from an alleged accident when his motorised paragliding kite failed in strong wind and crashed to the ground.

Police suspect the kite failed due to strong winds or user error, but they are investigating reports that the deceased was not licensed to operate a paraglider in the national park.

Hausman was traveling around the country together with three other colleagues.

According to the Police they visited Bwindi game park for two days from October 27th before moving to Queen Elizabeth National Park where the accident happened.

Sebastien Hobven a colleague of the deceased said Hausman made an error while paragliding and the team watched him fall from the sky and crash to the ground.

Hobven said they had been paragliding around all the national parks in Uganda and had alot of experience in their sport.

‘It pains to see one of us gone like that.’ Hausman (passport page pictured below) is survived by a wife and two kids who are back in Belgium.

Uganda Wildlife Authority official Simplicious Gesa said the Belgians are known to the authority but had not yet secured a permit to paraglide and film in the national park.

“The deceased and his friends wanted access to film while paragliding in the park but they had not been cleared to do that. They were supposed to pay and get clearance before paragliding or filming. Its sad when we heard that one of them had died.’
WHAT IS PARAGLIDING?

According to wikipedia: Powered paragliding, also known as paramotoring or PPG, is a form of ultralight aviation where the pilot wears a motor on their back (a paramotor) which provides enough thrust to take off using a paraglider. It can be launched in still air, and on level ground, by the pilot alone — no assistance is required.

In many countries powered paragliding is minimally regulated and requires no license. The ability to fly both low and slow safely, the ‘open’ feel, the minimal equipment and maintenance costs, and the portability are claimed to be this type of flying’s greatest merits.

F1 Champ Hamilton Dodged Tax On Private Jet

Formula 1 champion Lewis Hamilton avoided tax on his £16.5m luxury jet, according to Paradise Papers documents.

They show a £3.3m VAT refund was given after the Bombardier Challenger 605 was imported into the Isle of Man in 2013.

It appears a leasing deal set up by advisers was artificial and did not comply with an EU and UK ban on refunds for private use – although he may have been entitled to one for business.

Hamilton’s lawyers say a tax barrister review found the structure was lawful.

They added it was not correct to say no VAT had been paid on any of the arrangements.

A statement later issued by the racing driver’s representative said: “As a global sportsman who pays tax in a large number of countries, Lewis relies upon a team of professional advisers who manage his affairs.

“Those advisers have assured Lewis that everything is above board and the matter is now in the hands of his lawyers.”

Instagram posts

At 06:15 on 21 January 2013, Hamilton touched down at Ronaldsway airport on the Isle of Man in his new jet with his then-pop star girlfriend Nicole Scherzinger to finalise the paperwork with customs.

While Hamilton’s planned use of the jet was predominantly for business purposes, the BBC’s Panorama programme has seen documents which suggest the 32-year-old F1 Mercedes driver intended to make private flights about a third of the time.

Dundee United are expected to appoint Csaba Laszlo as their new manager on Wednesday.

Hungarian Laszlo, 53, managed Hearts between July 2008 and January 2010, and steered them to third in the Scottish Premier League in his one full season.

Having been manager of the national teams of Uganda and Lithuania, he was last with Dunajska Streda in Slovakia.

Ray McKinnon was sacked by United in October following back-to-back Scottish Championship defeats.

United were fourth in the table when McKinnon departed but, under coach Laurie Ellis, they have beaten Dumbarton and St Mirren and are now second to the Buddies on goal difference.

Former Hibernian manager John Hughes was also spoken to by United, who were relegated at the end of the 2015-16 season.

Moment Of Truth As World Cup Slots Up For Grabs

$

The African continent will this weekend stand still in anticipation as the third and last round of African qualifiers for the 2018 FIFA World Cup draws to a close.

Three of the five tickets to next year’s tournament in Russia are still up for grabs, with the remaining two already snatched by Nigeria and Egypt.

But there is still all to play for in Groups A, C and D of the qualifiers, to make this weekend and the matches unique.

Newsmen report that in Group A, leaders Tunisia hold a three-point advantage over the Democratic Republic of Congo.

This weekend, the Leopards are set to face Guinea, while the North Africans are at home to Libya.

The Tunisians who are on 13 points require just a point to secure their place at the World Cup finals for the first time since 2006.

However, if they lose, DR Congo on ten points can overtake them but may need to win by at least two goals.

Both will be level on goal difference should Tunisia lose 1-2 to Libya and DR Congo beat Guinea 1-0, and in that scenario, Tunisia will go through on the head-to-head rule.

Group C is delicately poised between Morocco and Cote d’ Ivoire, with the pair set for battle in a crunch encounter in Abidjan on Saturday.

As things stand, table-toppers Morocco with 10 points hold a slim advantage as they lead the table by just a point, closely followed by the Ivorians on eight points.

The situation is quite simple though as the Moroccans will qualify if they avoid defeat against the Ivorians in Abidjan.

Meanwhile the Ivorians, who will be counting on their home advantage, must win if they are to top the section and pip Morocco to the ticket.

Just as intriguing is the situation in Group D, where all of the teams in the group have a chance of qualifying.

There are actually three matches still to be played, including South Africa-Senegal, and it makes it a dicey affair.

The South Africa-Senegal match which originally took place in November 2016 will now be replayed on Friday as per the recent decision of the Bureau for the FIFA World Cup Qualifiers.

In the event that Senegal record a win in South Africa, they would be assured of finishing in first place and traveling to Russia next year.

A draw may also be enough for Senegal, if four days later the Burkina Faso-Cape Verde match ends in a stalemate.

Conversely, should South Africa record a win in the replayed encounter then that would leave all four sides still very much in the hunt with one match remaining.

However, the South Africans who remain at the bottom of their World Cup qualifying group are sweating on the fitness of first-choice goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune.

He recently picked up an injury and his absence can be a huge blow for Bafana Bafana who were beaten back-to-back by Cape Verde the last time Khune was missing.

The 2018 FIFA World Cup is expected to hold from June 14 to July 15 in Russia with 32 teams in attendance.

The final round of matches to compete for the remaining three slots for Africa ahead of next year’s football World Cup in Russia, will kick off later today.

Egypt and Nigeria have already qualified, while Tunisia and Senegal are almost there.

Senegal could be the first to qualify if they win away against South Africa to guarantee top spot in Group D.

The match in Polokwane is a replay of last year’s 2-1 win for South Africa at the same venue.

Football’s world governing body, Fifa, ordered a repeat of the game after it found the result was manipulated by Ghanaian referee Joseph Lamptey, who has since been handed a life ban.

It means Senegal and South Africa play each other twice in the space of four days with a return encounter next Tuesday in Dakar.

World Rugby has announced that France will be the host nation of the 2023 Rugby World Cup.

South Africa’s bid had previously been named as the “unanimous” choice by the Rugby World Cup board to host the tournament, ahead of both France and Ireland.

The announcement follows SA Rugby’s submission of a 827-page, 8.2kg bid book which included a commitment from the South African government to exceed the minimum guarantee of £120 million (R2.27 billion) required by World Rugby with an additional guarantee of £40 million (R757 million).

SA Rugby forecast another £60 million (R1.13 billion) in profit for World Rugby from hospitality sales and savings on event costs because of the exchange rate.

The tournament promised the largest ever attendance for a final with a record 87,436 spectators at the FNB Stadium as part of an availability of 2.9 million match tickets for the event – also a record.

“Hosting Rugby World Cup 2023 will be a massive boost for our country as well as the game of rugby,” said SA Rugby CEO Jurie Roux ahead of the announcement.

“This is the fourth successive time we have bid for the tournament: this is not a ‘nice-to-have’ for rugby in South Africa – the opportunity to recapture just some of the spirit of 1995 has been an obsession for us.”

France got 24 votes to South Africa’s 15 in the final round of voting.

7 Things You Didn’t Know About Cristiano

He Was Once Expelled From School: Now one of the most successful men on the planet, but when he was 14, Ronaldo was expelled from school in Portugal after launching a chair at a teacher. The teacher was apparently making fun of his Madeiran accent, and the wealth of his family.  I think we know who had the last laugh here.

His Career Could Have Been Over at 15-Years-Old:

At 15, Ronaldo was diagnosed with a heart condition which could have ended his football career. He was at Sporting CP when the racing heart condition was discovered, and he underwent laser surgery to rectify the problem. Luckily the surgery was successful and he was able to continue playing football.

You Can Study a Cristiano Ronaldo Course at a College in Canada

The University of British Colombia in Canada offers a course in Cristiano Ronaldo studies. The course involves studying everything about Cristiano Ronaldo from his skill and achievements to his fashion style and lifestyle. The semester-long course also looks at Ronaldo’s influence and relationship with Portugal and Madeira.

He Was the First Player to Score in Every Minute of the Game

He was the first player to score in the first, second… all the way through to the 90th minute in a game at some point in his career, which is pretty impressive.

He achieved the feat in 2014 when he netted a brace against Atletico Madrid in the Copa Del Rey. The first of the goals completed the set, and ironically it was scored in the 7th minute.

He is Named After a Former American President

Ronaldo was actually born Cristiano Dos Santos Aveiro, but he is now known as Ronaldo due to his dad. He was a big fan of American actor and former president Ronald Regan, so much so that he decided to name his son after him.

He Was the First Premier League Player to Win FIFA World Player of the Year

Ronaldo became the first player from the Premier League to be crowned as the world’s best player by FIFA when he won the award for 2008.

He beat of competition from Lionel Messi and Fernando Torres to win the award; Ronaldo has since gone on to win the award on 4 other occasions.

He Shares His Birthday With Neymar and Carlos Tevez

Ronaldo was born on this very day (February 5th) in 1985, and it seems that it is a popular day for birthdays associated with football.

Other players to be born on this day include: Neymar, Carlos Tevez, Adnan Januzaj, Jordan Rhodes, as well as ex England manager Sven Goran Eriksson.

Happy Birthday to them all!
